Names tell a story too. When the Outdoor Alliance was being formed, the name, Friends of Story County Conservation, told our story directly. Steve Holmes was the county attorney at the time the Outdoor Alliance was being established as a non-profit organization. The county attorney is the county supervisors, Story County Conservation and other county agencies' attorney. Steve Holmes preferred a name that did not sound similar or imply an official governmental office, including Friends of Story County Conservation.
Eventually, the name, the Outdoor Alliance of Story County was chosen: it was both descriptive and was acceptable to the county attorney. It also describes our focus, assisting Story County Conservation, and our interest in working with other non-profit organizations, cities, informal community groups and individuals to enhance outdoor recreation, education and conservation in Story County.
